A.    BACKGROUND

FARA is the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, an umbrella organization bringing together and forming coalitions of major stakeholders in agricultural research and development in Africa.

FARA complements the innovative activities of national, international and sub-regional research institutions to deliver more responsive and effective services to its stakeholders. It plays advocacy and coordination roles for agricultural research for development, while the national agricultural research systems (NARS), advanced research institutions (ARIs) and international agricultural research centres (IARCs) develop and promote the adoption of improved technologies and policies along the research-to-development continuum in their respective countries and jurisdictions. FARA intends to apply part of the proceeds for the following consultancy services:

TO ENGAGE A FIRM TO UNDERTAKE INTERPRETATION&TRANSLATION SERVICES FOR FARA SECRETARIAT

 

FARA seeks to engage a reputable Firm to provide high quality interpretation and translation services under a time-based contract agreement for services to be performed in various parts of Africa.

 

B. OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The objectives of this assignment are the following:

  • Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services (English/French/Spanish/Portuguese/Arabic) during various meetings, conferences and workshops.
  • Provide translation services (English/French/Spanish/Portuguese/Arabic) when needed.

 

C. SCOPE OF WORK

Specifically, the firm will undertake the following tasks:

Provide simultaneous/consecutive interpretation services during:

  1. Major meetings;
  2. Conferences;
  3. Workshops;

The details will be provided in a schedule from time to time.

 

Provide translation of:

  1. Modification/Changes/comments made by participants in meetings and conferences;
  2. Reports from Consultants/Partners/Counterparts as well as FARA’s Progress Reports;
  3. Legislation, advocacy and various information materials;
  4. Documents of meetings;
  5. Correspondence to FARA/international counterparts and vice versa.

 

  • Modification/Changes/comments made during meetings;
  • Various reports from Consultants/Partners;
  • Legislation, advocacy and various information materials;
  • Progress Reports;
  • Documents of meetings;
  • Correspondence to FARA/international counterparts and vice versa.

 

FARA now invites eligible consultancy firms to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, descriptions of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.) Firms should have a proven record of conducting similar assignments for organizations like FARA for not less than 5 years.

 

The attention of interested firms is drawn to paragraph 1.9 of the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits and Grants by World Bank Borrowers – January 2011, Revised July 2014 setting forth the World Bank’s Policy on conflict of interest.

 

Firms may associate with other firms in the form of a joint venture or a sub-consultancy to enhance their qualifications.

 

A firm will be selected in accordance with the Selection Based on Consultants’ Qualifications (CQS) method set out in the Consultant Guidelines.
