PRESS RELEASE: National Consultations on Rolling-Out the Science Agenda for Agriculture in Africa (Egypt).

The Agricultural Research Center in co-operation with FARA will conduct a workshop on “National Consultations on Rolling-Out the Science Agenda for Agriculture in Africa (S3A)” in Egypt, one of the selected tier-one countries.

The workshop will be implemented from 9th-12th July, 2017 at Sofitel El Gizera Hotel, Cairo and attended by 40 participants representing different organizations; i.e. the Agricultural Research Center, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Scientific Research, the Agricultural Development Bank, representative of the private sector, NGOs with focus on agriculture, funding agencies, faculties of Agriculture of different Universities, and about 15 participants from different African countries.

With the view to sensitize participants on the status and strategy of the S3A, the workshop further aims to craft a Theory of Change and Results Framework emphasizing science priorities, needs, baselines and expected change resulting from mainstreaming of S3A at national levels and set up a controlled process for deepening Egypt engagements with S3A implementation.

It is expected that the workshop outputs;

  1. Will include the elaboration of common challenges and opportunities in S3A implementation;
  2. Will be considered as an examination of how the utilization of existing facilities and interventions can promote S3A;
  3. Will identify the roles and responsibilities for Egypt as one of the Tier One countries understood and confirmed;
  4. Will set a theory of change, results framework and knowledge management mechanisms in the agricultural sector.

Managed by FARA, the workshop is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the European Commission and the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research.
