This Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared on the African Development Bank Group’s Internet Website (www.afdb.org) 12th August 2022.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has received financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for the Engagement of a Graphic Designer to package extension materials and messages for Capacity Development Interventions in selected countries in Africa (Cameroon, CAR, DRC, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Madagascar, Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda). IITA signed a sub-agreement with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) as an implementing partner for the CDTO Compact.
The assignment is to engage a Graphics/Creative Designer who will be responsible for: (i) Concept Development and Design, including developing creative concepts for various agricultural extension materials, including but not limited to brochures, pamphlets, posters, infographics, digital content, and social media graphics; ensuring that the design concepts align with the project’s goals, target audience, and key messages, and as developed by the other 2 consultants; providing multiple design options for review and feedback; (ii) Material Design, including creating high-quality, original graphics and layouts for the agreed-upon materials; using appropriate design software and tools to ensure professional output; considering factors like readability, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity in design; (iii) Brand Consistency, ensuring that all materials adhere to established branding guidelines of TAAT, FARA and technology custodians, maintaining consistency in color schemes, fonts, logos, and visual elements across all designs; (iv) Revision and Finalization, incorporating feedback and requested revisions in a timely manner, providing final, print-ready files and digital formats as per the requirements of TAAT and FARA; and (v) Geographical Coverage, largely for audiences from Francophone and Anglophone countries with primary target countries being Cameroon, CAR, DRC, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Madagascar, Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda. Spillovers are expected.
The duration of the assignment is 28 days spread over a period of 6 months (an average of 5-man days per month); the selected consultant will report to the CDTO Compact Coordinator/Leader. The assignment is expected to commence on April 01, 2024.
The selected consultant should possess: at least a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field, and/or Professional Certification in related field, with extensive practical experience of not less than 3 years in similar assignments; Technical Expertise in relevant design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, CorelDRAW, etc.) with ability to work with both print and digital formats; Demonstrable portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, preferably including agricultural or related materials; Prior experience working on projects related to agriculture, agribusiness, or rural development; Experience in designing for various platforms (print, digital, social media, etc.); Proficiency in creating multimedia content (e.g., infographics, animations, videos) related to agriculture; Experience in client-facing roles, including discussing design briefs, presenting concepts, and incorporating feedback; Experience in designing materials that adhere to established branding guidelines, if applicable; Previous experience managing design projects from concept to final delivery; Familiarity with designing materials that are accessible to individuals with different abilities; Experience in conducting market research and audience analysis to inform design decisions; Understanding of print production processes and requirements for designing materials for print; Awareness of current trends and best practices in digital media design; Fluency in English or French. Fluency in both languages will be an added advantage.
FARA, now invites eligible individual consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (including their detailed CV and letter of motivation detailing past related experience similar to this assignment).

Consultants interested in this call must provide an Expression of Interest no longer than 10 pages, outlining proposed methodologies, references related to the execution of similar assignments, experience in similar areas, or evidence of knowledge and a proposed timeline. Brochures, CVs, and other supplementary materials submitted shall not be accounted for as part of the 10-page limit.
