In Memoriam: Prof Calestous Juma (June 9, 1953 – December 15, 2017)

A big fish just left our pond!

It feels like a surreal scenario reading about the passing of the greatest luminary of our time – Prof Calestous Juma. Calestous provided the courage and the stamina for FARA when we needed it most to weather the storms in 2014! He played a very strong role in the conception of the African Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He proposed the name and agreed to become the first editor-general of the AAAST Journal had it taken off in 2014.

Calestous met with the FARA Executive Director, Dr Yemi Akinbamijo and Ikhide Imumorin at the Logan Airport for 7 seven hours and there was the official birthplace of the AAAST. He will not see it unfold on this side of eternity but as a tribute to his sweet memory and legacy, we will strive for the spirit (and letter) of AAAST.

On behalf of the Board Chair of FARA – Dr Ephraim Mukisira, the Forum commiserates with the bereaved family while we pray for the repose of his soul.
