This Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared on the African Development Bank Group’s Internet Website (www.afdb.org) 12th August 2022.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has received financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for the Individual Consultant to provide technical support to develop extension materials and messages for the Capacity Development Interventions in selected countries in Western/Central Africa (Cameroon, CAR, DRC, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana). IITA signed a sub-agreement with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) as implementing partner for the CDTO Compact.
The assignment is to engage a consultant to identify and map the target audience for each technology in Western/Central Africa (Cameroon, CAR, DRC, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana) to identify and map out dissemination channels to be used to ensure that the technology reaches the target audience; collaborate with TAAT Compacts and Country stakeholders to develop extension materials and messages based on need and preferences of target audiences; facilitate webinar sessions, validate contents and disseminate packages at relevant conferences. The consultant will work virtually from the place of domicile with virtual linkages to the FARA secretariat and physical participation when needed.
The duration of the assignment is 20-man days; the selected consultant will report to the CDTO Compact Coordinator/Leader. The assignment is expected to commence on April 01, 2024.
The selected consultant should possess at least a master’s degree in agriculture, agricultural communications, agribusiness, agricultural extension, knowledge management or a related field. Specialized degrees in technology, engineering, or business can also be valuable. The ideal candidate should possess technical expertise in agricultural technologies, knowledge management of agricultural development, such as precision farming, automation systems, etc. Knowledge of the latest trends and innovations in the agricultural sector, including sustainable and climate-smart technologies. Prior industry experience working in the agriculture industry is crucial. This can involve working on farms, with agricultural technology companies, extension service delivery or in research and development related to agriculture. Knowledge of the TAAT programme is an added advantage. Familiarity with product development processes, from ideation to prototyping, testing, and final packaging is required including understanding market research and consumer needs to create viable and marketable agricultural technologies. The consultant must show proficiency in business planning, financial analysis, and budgeting, with the ability to create a comprehensive business strategy for launching and marketing agricultural technologies. Knowledge of supply chain management and distribution channels for agricultural products, is needed. The selected consultant must have strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to clients, investors, and stakeholders; and show the ability to develop clear and concise product documentation and user manuals and the capacity to identify agricultural challenges and develop innovative solutions using technology, with analytical skills to assess the feasibility and viability of agricultural technology projects. S/he must possess an entrepreneurial mindset which is valuable for managing projects, clients, and resources effectively. The selected consultant must show the capability of building a network within the agricultural and technology sectors that can provide valuable opportunities for collaborations and project partnerships; and the ability to stay updated on the latest agricultural technology developments with cutting-edge solutions is an added advantage. Fluency in both English and French is required.

Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (including their detailed CV and letter of motivation detailing past related experience similar to this assignment.).

Consultants interested in this call must provide an Expression of Interest no longer than 10 pages, outlining proposed methodologies, references related to the execution of similar assignments, experience in similar areas, or evidence of knowledge and a proposed timeline. Brochures, CVs, and other supplementary materials submitted shall not be accounted for as part of the 10-page limit.
