Board Member
Mr Philip Boahen is the Lead Partnership and Coordination manager of the Agriculture and Agro-Industry Department at the African Development Bank (AfDB) whose role is to manage special initiatives, drive high-level partnerships and coordinate the Department’s work programme.
For the past five (5) years, Mr Boahen has served as the Chief Policy Agriculture Economist at the African Development Bank (AfDB). He joined the African Development Bank in 2007 and has served in several roles including Sector Specialist in Ghana (2007 – 2010), Senior Programme Coordinator (2010 – 2012) and Principal Country Programme Officer (2012 -2017), covering Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zambia.
Mr Boahen has 25 years of professional experience in agriculture development at continental, regional, and national levels. He has experience in portfolio management, partnerships, agriculture policy and the implementation of agriculture programmes to achieve greater developmental impact. Before joining the Bank, Mr Boahen worked with USAID Trade and Investment Programme in Ghana, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as Advisor and Team Lead, under the Sedentary Farming Systems Project.
Mr Philip Boahen holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wales, UK. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Agriculture for Research and Development from the Wageningen University of Agriculture and Research, The Netherlands.
