Board Chair
Ms Bongiwe Njobe is the current Board Chairperson of FARA. She is an accomplished independent consultant with over 39 years’ experience in agricultural policy practice, fast-moving food and beverage consumer goods, sustainable development, strategy development and change management in the public, private and non-governmental sector in Africa and internationally. Ms Njobe at one time was the Director General (DG) of the National Department of Agriculture, in South Africa, where she oversaw the development of policy and the implementation of agricultural development programmes and facilitated international collaboration efforts in the AR4D sector, including working with the CGIAR and FARA. In her term as DG of agriculture, Ms Njobe launched the annual Female Farmer of the Year Award, which recognized the work of women in the South African agricultural sector. She previously served as the Chair of the Global Forum on Agriculture Research (GFAR). Currently, she is self-employed and sits as a Director or Trustee on various public and private sector companies, including as Chairperson of the Perishable Products Exports Certification Agency (South Africa) and the Rhodes Food Group where she chairs the Social and Ethics Committee.
